Performers 3/8

We're proud to announce that Mani will be performing selections of Jennifer Higdon's String Poetic at Composing Thoughts LIVE.

Performers biographies:
Violinist Joel Lambdin enjoys a varied career as performer, teacher, and creator of music. As founder and Artistic Director of two chamber ensembles, the Harrisburg Players’ Collective and MANI, he has brought standard classical music to a wide variety of audiences across the US, Canada, and the West Indies. He is currently on the faculty at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA, as well as the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He has also served on the faculties of both the North and South Carolina Governor’s Schools. He is a Teaching Artist for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Beginnings program. With his Harrisburg Players’ Collective, Mr. Lambdin has presented the standard chamber repertoire with America’s top musicians, including Tom Kraines, Odin Rathnam, Daniel Gaisford, Kurt Nikkanen, Kevin Lawrence, and the Tony Award winning Stuart Malina. Under Joel’s Direction, the Collective thrived, providing Central Pennsylvania with a full educational outreach program, a Youth Players’ Collective, as well as raising money for charitable causes. In addition, the Collective performed in a wide range of venues across the East Coast, from bars and restaurants to their Residency at the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library in Camp Hill, PA. In keeping with this innovative approach to performance, Mr. Lambdin is co-director of MANI, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. In addition to its traditional residency at Greenpoint’s Church of the Ascension, MANI is presenting more innovative concerts in a variety of venues and incorporating free-improvisation and popular music with the standard repertoire, scholarly orchestrations of masterworks, and works composed by the performers. As an improviser, Joel has appeared with numerous groups especially in the New York City area. Regular ensembles include the Spool Ensemble in Winston-Salem, NC, Spring Theory in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Lambdin received his BM and MM from the North Carolina School of the Arts under Kevin Lawrence and Sara Johnson.

Pianist Emi Kagawa is the winner of the prestigious Gina Bachauer Competition at Juilliard, where she studied with Jerome Lowenthal. Ms Kagawa has won international competitions including first prize at the Nancy Clark International Piano Competition, second prize at the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition, and third place at both the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition and the Corpus Christi International Competition. She performs extensively throughout the United States and Japan. In New York, Ms Kagawa’s performances include concerts at the Continental Center and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. WQXR, a New York classical music station, featured her playing. Ms. Kagawa formerly served as Adjunct Faculty at New York University and maintains a private teaching studio. She is enrolled in the Doctoral program at SUNY at Stony Brook. She has studied under Larry Graham, Miyoko Lotto, Martin Canin, and Christina Dahl.
